Oblate-spheroid.

An ellipsoid or a spheroid is a quadric surface that rotates on an ellipse on one of its principal axes.

It is actually an ellipsoid that has two equal semi-diameters.

An ellipsoid has a circular symmetry.

If an ellipse is rotated on its major axis, the outcome is a prolate spheroid.

It will be shaped like a rugby ball or an American football.

If an ellipse is rotated on its minor axis, an oblate spheroid is the result that is like a lentil.

If the happening ellipse is a circle, then a sphere will be formed.

Because of the mixed effects of rotation and gravity, the Earth's figure is not exactly a sphere.

It is marginally flattened towards the direction of its rotation axis.

Due to this reason, the Earth is usually termed as an oblate spheroid rather than a complete sphere.
