The shape, size and function are definitely inter-related. This is because shape defines the size which enables to carry out their function easily and swiftly.
Eg. Each cell type has evolved a particular shape that is automatically related to its function also. The neuron cell in human brain has long and thin extensions that are called axons and dendrites. Their function is to branch out easily and reach out to other nerve cells and quickly carry chemical and electrical messages through the body. This is possible only because they have slender size and elongated shape.
