Given :-

SP = ₹1152

Total gain = 1/8 of the cost price

To Find :-

The cost price of the ceiling fan.

Solution :-

Let the CP be ₹ x

A/q ,

Total gain = 1/8 of CP

=\: {\dfrac{1}{8}}\: \times x

=\: {\dfrac{x}{8}}

SP = CP + Gain

=\: x\: +\: {\dfrac{x}{8}}

=\: {\dfrac{8x + x}{8}}

=\: {\dfrac{9x}{8}}

But, Also given that SP = ₹1152

A/q,

{\dfrac{9x}{8}}\: =\: 1152

=>\: 9x\: =\: 1152 \times 8

=>\: x\: =\: {\dfrac{1152 \times 8}{9}}

=> x = 1024.

Therefore, The cost price of the ceiling fan is ₹1024.

Short-hands Used :-

  • SP = Selling Price
  • CP = Cost Price
  • P = profit
  • L = Loss

Extra Information :-

  • Cost price :- It is the price at which an article is bought.
  • Selling price :- It is the price at which an article is finally sold.
  • Profit :- It is the total money gained by selling the article at more price than CP.
  • Loss :- It is the total money losed by selling the article at less price than CP.
