  • Displacement is the shortest distance between the starting and stopping point of an object.

  • It is a vector quantity.

  • It is always less than or equal to distance (which is a scalar quantity).

  • Displacement can be negative, zero and positive.

  • It is represented as \vec{r}=|\vec{r}|\hat{r}

For example :

  • When a body travels a full circle, it's distance is 2πr (r is radius), but it's displacement is zero because it's starting and stopping point is same.
