Sides  20cm and 15 cm      Area =  L X B  = 20*15 = 300 cm^2

Side increased by 20%

20 becomes  20*1.2 = 24 cm,       15 becomes  15*1.2 = 18 cm

New Area =  24 * 18 =  432 cm^2

Increase in area = 432 - 300 = 132

% increase = 132 / 300 * 100  =  44%

----------------------------------------

Here is the solution:

----------------------------------------

Find the original area:

Area = Length x Breadth

Area = 20 x 15 = 300 cm²

Find the new length:

20% x 20 = 0.2 x 20 = 4 cm

New length = 20 + 4 = 24 cm

Find the new breadth:

20% x 15 = 0.2 x 15 = 3 cm

New breadth = 15 + 3 = 18 cm

Find the new area:

Area = Length x Breadth

Area = 24 x 18 = 432 cm²

Find the percentage increased:

Increase = New Area - Original Area

Increase = 432 - 300 = 132 cm²

Find the percentage increase in area:

Percentage increased = increase/original x 100

Percentage increased = 132/300 x 100 = 44%

Answer: The area is increased by 44%
