Given  : square flower bed is 1.5 m . And expanded by digging 25 cm wide strip all around outside

To find : Area of enlarged flower bed

Increase in area  of flower bed

Solution:

Flower bed  = 1.5 m * 1.5 m    = 2.25  m²

25 cm Strip around all     ( 25 cm  =  0.25 m )    as  1 m = 100 cm

Size of enlarged flower bed  = 1.5 + 0.25 + 0.25    & 1.5 + 0.25 + 0.25

= 2  m  & 2 m

Area of enlarged flower bed  = 2 * 2   =  4  m²

Area of enlarged flower bed  = 4  m²

Increased area =4 - 2.25   = 1.75  m²
