the side of a square flower bed is 1 m 80 cm long . it is enlarged by digging a strip 20 cm wide all around it find the area of the enlarged flower bed and also the increase in area of the flower bed ​​

Answer:

Given = The side of a square bed is 1 m 80 cm = 1.8 m

               It is enlarged all side by  = 20 cm = 0.2 m

Sol : The are before enlargement = 1.8 * 1.8 = 3.24 sq m

        After enlargement, the side becomes = 1.8 +0.2 +0.2 = 2.2

         Then area  = 2.2 * 2.2 = 4.84 sq.m

        The increase in area = 4.84 - 3.24 = 1.6 sqm

        % increase = 1.6/3.24 *100 = 49.4 %
