area of square of side a is a^2
if a decreased by half then side is a/2 then then area of decreased square is (a/2)^2
so its (a^2)/4
in percentage it is quater ( 25%)

Let side of square be x
then area =x^2
after decreasing side 50%=x-50x/100=x/2
Then area =x/2*x/2=x^2/4
Then decreasement in area =x^2-x^2/4=3x^2/4
%decreasement 3x^2*100/4*x^2=75%
