The side of outer square is 10 cm and the side of inner square is 9 cm. What is the area of the shaded region.

Given that,

Side of outer square = 10 cm

Side of inner square = 9 cm

To find,

The area of shaded portion = ?

First of all, we'll find the area of outer square and then we'll find the area of inner square and then we'll subtract the area of outer square from inner square so that we'll get the area of shaded portion.

Area of outer square = a²

Area of outer square = (10 cm)²

Area of outer square = 100 cm²

Now, we'll find the area of inner square.

Area of inner square = a²

Area of inner square = (9 cm)²

Area of inner square = 81 cm²

Area of shaded portion = Area of outer square - area of inner square

Area of shaded portion = 100 cm² - 81 cm²

Area of shaded portion = 19 cm²

Therefore, the area under shaded portion is 19 cm².
