As diagonal of square divide it into two right ∆s.

Hence,

Altitude = 8 cm

Base = 8 cm

From Pythagorean theorem,

h² = p² + b²

h² = (8)² + (8)²

h² = 64 + 64

h = √128

h = √16 x 8

h = √8 x 2 x 8

h = 8√2 cm

Hence, Diagonal = h = 8√2 cm
