The side of the relief feature that faces the moisture bearing winds is known as Windward Side. It is the side which faces the rain fall or the moisture bearing winds. The opposite side of the windward side is called as the Leeward Side. It is the side which doesn't face or experience any rainfall.

The deserts are all leeward part of India and the eastern part of Deccan plateau and other hills and the East ghat are all windward part.
