As we know, sum of opposite angles of quadrilateral are supplementary i.e 180 degree

Similarly sum of exterior angles is 180 degree if two lines are antiparallel that means not parallel.

So a + b = 180-----------2)

From equation 1) and 2)

180 = a+b=x+y

Thus, a+b=x+y
