The sides of a rectangle are 20 cm and 15cm if each side of the rectangle is increased by 20 percent,find the percentage increase in the area

STEP 1: Find the area of the rectangle:

Area = Length x Breadth

Area = 20 x 15 = 300 cm²

Increase in length = 20% x 20 = 0.2 x 20 = 4 cm

New Length = 20 + 4 = 24 cm

Increase in breadth = 20% x 15 = 0.2 x 15 = 3cm

New Breadth = 15 + 3 = 18 cm

STEP 3: Find new area:

Area = Length x Breadth

Area = 24 x 18 = 432 cm²

Area increased = 432 - 300 = 132 cm²
