The sides of a rectangle are 40 em by 30 cm. If each side is increased by 10%, find the
percentage increase in the area.

Answer:

area of rectangle before increasing sides = 40×30 = 1200cm²

sides will increase 10% = 40 cm will be 44cm(10% of 40cm is 4cm, 40cm+ 4cm = 44cm

30cm will be 33cm(10% of 30cm is 3cm, 30cm+3cm = 33cm)

area after increasing sides = 44×33 = 1452cm²

area will increase 1452-1200 = 252 cm²
