or you can solve this sum through herons formula

 \sqrt{s(s - a)(s - b)(s - c)}

s =  \frac{a + b + c}{2}  = \frac{5 + 12 + 13}{2}  =  \frac{30}{2}  = 15

substitute the values in the formula and we get the same answer 30 sq. cm.
