let ' a ' be the side of square .

original area of square=side × side = a × a =a^2

if side decreased by 37 %

then new side = a - 37 % of a =a - 0.37a

= a( 1 - 0.37 ) = 0.63 a

new area of square = ( new side )^2

= ( 0.63a )^2 = 0.3969 a^2

decreased area = original area - new area

= a^2 - 0.3969 a^2

= a^2 ( 1 - 0.3969 ) = 0.6031 a^2

decrease % = decreased(A)/ original area×100

= 0.6031 a^2 / a^2 × 100

= 60.31

therefore

area of square decreased by 60.31%
