Given:

The ratio of the sides of two squares = 4:5

To find:

The ratio of the areas of the squares.

Solution:

Let the side of one square be 4x and the other one be 5x. Then the areas will be:

For 1st square = (4x)² = 16x²

For 2nd square = (5x)² = 25x²

Thus, the ratio of the areas of the squares will be;

16x²/ 25x² = 16: 25

Thus, the areas of the squares will be in the ratio of 16: 25.
