Answer:
Promotional was a little girl-child – attractive, deaf. Because her parents ran a guest-house, visitors turned to Promotional to talk to her. This caused unpleasantness. The narrator once happened to stay at this guest-house for a while during which he devised a way to prevent guests from asking her questions. Each new guest was given an envelop with a message about Promodini’s disability.
“Every cloud has a silver lining” is a proverb pregnant with the great message of hope. This means hope is real. Like lightning pierces the dark clouds and makes them rain down for the thirsty earth, hope makes everything alright. In the story, the narrator’s idea of the chits given to new guests was not a standing solution for Promodini’s deafness. The real solution was to help her overcome her disability. Everyone realized it only when Mr. David arrived at the guest house. The silver line of hope that he emitted was his playing with Promodini. If he hadn’t done so, Promodini’s chances of improvement could have been far-fetched or impossible.
