Rs. 1640

Given

Circumstance 1                                    Circumstance 2

Rate of Interest (r)= 5%                         Rate of Interest (r)= 5%

Time (t₁)= 3                                             Time (t₂)= 4

 Difference in Simple Interest between the two time periods(S₂-S₁)= Rs. 82

Solution

The formula to find Simple Interest is

SI= P ₓ R ₓ T     Where P= Principal     R=Rate of Interest     T=Time

         100

Circumstance 1                          Circumstance 2

SI₁= P× 5 × 3                                   SI₂= P× 5×4

        100                                                100

    = 15P                                               = 20P

       100                                                  100

SI₂-SI₁=   20P-   15P

               100   100

82(Given in question) =   5P

                                         100

(By cross multiplication)

5P= 8200

 P= 8200

          5

P= 1640

Therefore, Principal Amount is Rs.1640
