The simple interest on a certain sum for 2.5 years at 12% per annum is rupees 300 less than the simple interest on the same sum for 4.5 years at 8% per annum. The sum is Rs 5000

Solution:

The simple interest is given as:

S.I = \frac{p \times n \times r}{100}

Where,

p is the sum

n is the number of years

r is the rate of interest

Given that,

Simple interest on a certain sum for 2.5 years at 12% per annum is rupees 300 less than the simple interest on the same sum for 4.5 years at 8% per annum

Therefore,

S.I at 4.5 years at 8% per annum - S.I at 2.5 years for 12 % per annum = 300

Let the sum be "p"

\frac{p \times 4.5 \times 8}{100} - \frac{p \times 2.5 \times 12}{100} = 300\\\\0.36p - 0.3p = 300\\\\0.06p = 300\\\\p = 5000

Thus the sum is Rs 5000
