The simple interest on a certain sum for 3½ years at 16% per annum is 390 more than the simple interest on the same sum for 2½ years at 12% per annum. Find the sum.

SI= x*2 1/2*12/100

SI= 3x/10

II deposit

Principal =x

r= 16

n= 3 1/2 years = 7/2 years

Si= (x*16*7)/(2*100)

SI=112x/200

II deposit interest -I deposit interest =390

112x/200 -3x/10 =390

LCD = 200

multiply by 200 to eliminate the denominator

112x-60x=390*200

52x=390*200

x=390*200/52

x= Rs 1500 the principal
