the simple interest on a certain sum of money for 5 years at the rate 10% per annum is 196 less than the simple interest on the same sum for four years at 16% per annum find the sum.​

Let amount is X .

1st sum is

X × 10% × 5

2nd is

X × 16% × 4

now

2 - 1

X × 64% - X × 50% = 196

X × 14% = 196

(% = 1 ÷ 100)

X × 14 ÷ 100 = 196

X ÷ 100 = 14

X % = 14

X = 1400
