Diffusion is a property of matter that moves particulate matter from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. In liquids, it is generally known as osmosis.
The simplest example of diffusion is the case of a semi-permeable membrane (SPM). The SPM allows only certain types of matter to go through it, and is made of materials similar to the structure of human skin. Only particles of a certain size, state and composition are allowed to pass through the membrane from one side to the other.
