The atom consists of equal number of protons and electrons.. And hence is neutral but anion have more electron than protons.. The nuclear force in an atom is equal with all electrons and in anions the protons exerts less force to the valence electrons and hence the electrons increases the ionic radius...
Thus the size of anion is bigger than the atom from which it is formed.
