Answer:

this is because of osmosis

Explanation:

due to osmosis water moves from a region of high concentration to a region of lower concentration.since there is low concentration in the skin, water moves inside

it's actually because of Osmosis.

what's osmosis?

it's a law of diffusion for water. the movement or passage of water through plasma or selectivity permeable membrane is called osmosis from a high concentration region to a lower concentration region or from a low concentration region to a high concentration region.

now, why the skin of our fingers shrink when we wash cloths for a long time. lemme tell u three statements about osmosis first.

  • cells swell up when there's high concentration of water outside the cell as compared to the cell.

  • cells stay in the same size if both the concentration of medium outside as well as in cell is same.

  • cells shrink when there's low concentration of medium outside the cell as compared to the cell.

when we wash clothes, there must be low concentration of water as compared to the cells of our finger skin.

hence, the cells of our finger skin will lose water by Osmosis and it'll shrink since the cell lose more water than gaining water.

that's why skin of our finger shrink when we wash clothes for a long time.
