the sky appears to be dark instead of blue to an astronaut in space because in the space, there is no atmosphere . Hence , no atmospheric refraction takes place . Thus they see the actual colour of sky which is dark.

atmospheric refraction is the process in which light coming from outside the earth gets dispersed and deviated. Due to this we see the sky as blue because it has one of the shortest wave length also our eyes is more sensitive towards blue . But there is no atmosphere in space so no atmospheric refraction takes place.
