The sky appears dark to passengers flying at very altitude mainly because

(A) scattering of light is not enough at such heights

At higher altitudes, the density of air decreases. The atmospheric refraction is not prominent at such heights. Since, there is no refraction, scattering of light doesn't take place and the person flying at high altitude sees the colour of sky dark.
