The sky seems to fall off a transparent cover, except light, nothing else because of the reason that 70% of the world is covered with water bodies. As a result of which there's a reflection formed naturally and the picturesque view is formed.

Earth is roughly a sphere, and so is the atmosphere that surrounds it. When we stand at a particular point, it appears that the sky merges with the ground. The line is called horizon. Sunlight and reflection of sunlight from earth's surface (especially water) makes it appears that the sky is a layer of light. But sky is actually transparent as it is a gas. But dispersion of sunlight makes it appears as a blanket of light.
