In an isothermal process the temperature is constant, but in an adiabatic curve the temperature maybe increasing or decreasing rapidly. This when coupled with expansion or compression (which brings the pressure factor) causes the difference in the curves. Hence an adiabatic curve is steeper than an isothermal curve.
