The small intestine of a lion is shorter in length than that of a deer because of the following reasons:

Lion is a carnivore obtaining nutrients from meat , whereas deer is a herbivore and obtain nutrients (especially cellulose) from plants.

Meat is comparatively easier to digest due to presence of peptidase proteins in the intestine of lions.

However , cellulose digestion requires \boxed{\beta \:amylase}βamylase enzyme and the digestion process is very complex.

So, herbivores (ruminants) have longer intestine (4 chambered) for complete digestion of cellulose obtained from plants.
