Genetically all the cats are very close, so we need close genetic mapping to find the small differences that make them distinct.Genetically all the cats are very close, so we need close genetic mapping to find the small differences that make them distinct..to indicate that [big cats] have evolved to fill a very particular carnivorous niche in the environment that is predicated on the advantages in hunting these genes provide. All the cats are unparalleled hunters, and here we are seeing some of the genetic reasons."as they have similar genes they have same habitats.but their habitats are getting destoryed.so,the small number of surviving tigers and lions cause of worry from the point of view of genetics

The small number if surviving tigers a cause of worry from the point of view of genetics. Why?

Small populations are at risk of extinction because:

  1. Lesser opportunity of finding the mate.
  2. Interbreeding that leads to interbreeding depression & degeneration.
  3. Increased threat to Survival because of habitat destruction & environmental changes.
  4. Fewer recombinations & less variability & hence lesser adaptability to changing environment
