Given :-

Smaller side of the rectangle less than it's larger side = 6 cm

Perimeter of the rectangle = 28 cm

To Find :-

The sum of lengths of larger and smaller sides.

The length of the sides.

Solution :-

We know that,

  • p = Perimeter
  • l = Length
  • b = Breadth

Let the larger side and the smaller side be x and x - 6 respectively.

Then, given

Length (l) = x

Breadth (b) = x - 6

Perimeter (p) = 28 cm

By the formula,

\underline{\boxed{\sf Perimeter \ of \ a \ triangle=2(Length+Breadth)}}

Substituting their values,

Perimeter = \sf 2(x+x-6)=28

\sf =28 = 2(2x - 6)

\sf = 28 = 4x - 12

=\sf 28 + 12 = 4x

\sf =\dfrac{40}{4} =x

\sf =x=10

Hence,

Length of the larger side = x = 10

Length of the smaller side = \sf x-6=10-6=4

Therefore,

a) The sum of lengths of larger and smaller side would be,

Length of the larger side + Length of the smaller side = Sum

\sf 10+4=14

Therefore, the sum is 14

b) The length of the sides are,

Length of larger side = 10 cm

Length of the smaller side = 4 cm
