The hot sizzling food is high at temperature so does the motion of the particles of that medium as compared to the motion of particles of cold food. Due to this kinetic energy the particles of hot food are diffused at higher rate with air and through air it reaches to us even though we are couple of meters away and alternatively the diffusion rate of cold food is very low , thus one has to go close to the food to get its aroma.

The smell of hot sizzling food reaches you several metres away, but to get the smell from cold food you have to go close because the kinetic energy of the particles of matter increases with the increase in temperature.
