At higher temperatures, the kinetic energy of the particles is high so they vibrate more as well as faster. So they reach farther distance when the food is hot and diffuse into the air to give the sensation of smell. When the food is cold, particles do not have enough kinetic energy so we have to go close to get the smell.

Hope it helps
