"The sniper looked at his enemy falling and he shuddered. The lust of battle died in him. He became bitten by remorse. The sweat stood out in beads on his forehead. Weakened by his wound and the long summer day of fasting and watching on the roof, he revolted from the sight of the shattered mass of his dead enemy. His teeth chattered, he began to gibber to himself, cursing the war, cursing himself, cursing everybody." What image is the author trying to create here? What feeling does the author want the reader to feel? Are they effective?

The main idea is, “he becomes human again”.  The war had made him to be cold and calculative person but the death of the man, his brother, makes his lust for war die. The feeling of remorse could have been temporary had he not seen the man he had killed.  After seeing his brother, whom he had killed, he would never touch the gun again.
