Given : anna bought soil that contains 12% of water .

she wants to plant a flower that needs 18% of water .

To Find : how much water does she need to pour in 5 kg of soil to plant the flower

Solution:

anna bought soil that contains 12% of water

5 kg of soil

=> Water = (12/100)2  = 0.6 kg

Let say Water poured   =  W kg or litre

Total Water = 0.6 + W  kg

Total Soil = 5 + W kg

18% of water

=> (18/100)(5 + W)  = 0.6 + W

=> 90 + 18W  =  60 + 100W

=> 30 = 82W

=> W = 30/82

=> W = 0.366 kg or 0.366 litre

or 3.66 dl

3.66 dl water to be added
