Concept

all sides of a square are equal.

Given

Soldiers of an army are standing in a square. There are 8500 soldiers in all out of which 36 are left out.

Find

we need to find the number of soldiers in the front row of the solid square.

Solution

We have total number of soldiers = 8500

Soldiers left out = 36

Thus, the total number of soldiers standing in the square = 8500 - 36

= 8464.

Let x number of soldiers stand in each row.

Since they are standing in a square, the number of rows will also be x

thus,

x * x = 8464

x = sqrt(8464)

x = 92

This means that 92 soldiers are standing in each row.

Thus, the number of soldiers in 1st row will be 92.
