Behold her, single in the field
Yon solitary Highland Lass!
देखो , स्कॉटलैंड के पहाड़ी क्षेत्र में रहने वाली
एक लड़की ( highland lass) को जो पूरे
खेत में अकेली (solitary ) है ।
Reaping and singing by herself;
Stop here, or gently pass!
वह लड़की खुद ही फसल को काट भी रही है
और इकट्ठा भी कर रही है। वहीं साथ - साथ
वह गाना भी गा रही है । रुक (stop) जाओ
और उसे सुनो नहीं तो शांतिपूर्ण (gently) यहां
से निकल जाओ ( pass) ।
Alone she cuts and binds the grain,
And sings a melancholy strain
वह अकेली ( alone) ही अनाज/ फसल को
काटती ( cuts) है और उसे बांधती (binds)
है। साथ ही वह एक उदासी भरा, तनाव से
युक्त ( melancholy strain) गीत भी गा
रही है ।
O listen! for the Vale profound
Is overflowing with the sound.
सुनो ! (Listen) वह गहरी घाटी ( vale
profound) भी उसके गीत के लयात्मक्ता के
साथ बह कर निकल ( overflowing) रहा है।
No Nightingale did ever chaunt
More welcome notes to weary

Of travellers in some shady haunt,
Among Arabian sands:
किसी बुलबुल पक्षी ने ऐसा स्वागत
गीत(welcome notes), कभी भी किसी
थके हारे ( weary )लोगो की समूह के लिए
नहीं गाया था । वह इसलिए क्यूंकि , वह अरब
देश के रेतो (Arabian sands) के बिच
आराम करते थे ।
A voice so thrilling ne'er was heard
In spring-time from the Cuckoo-bird,
ऐसी रोमांचक ( thrilling) आवाज़ ( voice)
में कभी भी वसंत (spring) के दिनों में कोयल
( Cuckoo- bird) ( पक्षी ) ने भी नहीं गाया
था,
Breaking the silence of the seas
Among the farthest Hebrides.
जिससे द्वीपों के पास की समुद्र की चुप्पी
अर्थात् शांति ( silence) भंग (breaking) हो
सके ।
Will no one tell me what she sings?
क्या कोई मुझे बताएगा कि वह गा क्या रही
है?
Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow
For old, unhappy, far-off things,
And battles long ago:
शायद वह बीते हुए ( old) दर्दनाक (
plaintive) लड़ाई( battles) , दुखांत (
unhappy) घटनाओं को याद कर के , एक
उदासी भरा गीत गा रही है ।
Or is it some more humble lay,
या तो वह विनम्रता (humble) भरा गीत गा
रही है जो

हर दिन की कहानी होती है ।
Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain,
That has been, and may be again?
जिसें आम आदमी हर रोज सहता हो ।
वहीं दुख(sorrow) , वही त्रासदी , वहीं
पीड़ा(pain) और वही हानि(loss), के विषय वाला
गीत जो आए दिन लोग सेहते है ।
Whate'er the theme, the Maiden
sang
चाहे जो भी गीत वह गा रही हो
As if her song could have no
ending;
उसे सुनकर ऐसा प्रतीत होता है मानो वह गीत
कभी खत्म ही नहीं होगा ।
I saw her singing at her work,
मैंने उसे , काम करते वक्त गाते हुए सुना
And o'er the sickle bending;—
जब वह दरांती ( sickle) को लेकर फसल
काटने हेतु झुकी हुई थी।
I listened, motionless and still;
मैं चुपचाप , स्तब्ध (motionless)और शांत
होकर वह गाना सुनता रहा
And, as I mounted up the hill,
और , जैसे ही मैं पहाड़ पर चढ़ने लगा
The music in my heart I bore,
मैंने उसके द्वारा गाए हुए गाने को अपने दिल /
हृदय में बसा लिया ।
Long after it was heard no more.
आज भी मैंने , उस लड़की द्वारा गाए हुए गीत
को मन में बसाया हुआ है ।
