Answer:

The answer will be:

x = 6; y = 4.

Step-by-step explanation:

The given equation is;

          2(x+y)=20;                             (i)

          2(x-y)=4;                                  (ii)

Now, we can find its answer through three different ways and i.e,

  1.    Substitution method
  2.    Cross-multiplication method
  3.     Elimination method

I'm here choosing only one way among the above to find the answer. So, if you want  in another two too, then go and get it through your own research and studies.

So, I'm choosin' elimination method;

      In this method we usually put the first equation in the second one joining them with any fundamental sign(like, +, -, /, * and others).

So, we follow as the above statement states:

Now, I'm going to add equation (i) and (ii);

              2(x+y) + 2(x-y) = 20 + 4;

              2x + 2y + 2x - 2y = 24;

   Here, y will eliminate;

               4x = 24;

                 x = 6;

Now, for y;

       2(6+y)=20;                             (i)

      12 + 2y = 20;

      2y = 8;

       y = 4;

Hence, I got the answer and i.e,

x = 6                   ;                        y = 4

That's all.
