Answer: x =  − b /a

This is a linear equation in one variable : x (assuming a and b to be constants)

So by subtracting b from both LHS and RHS,

ax + b - b = 0 - b,

Thus,

ax = -b,

Dividing both LHS and RHS by a,

ax/a = -b/a,

Thus,

x=-b/a …. is the value of x
