Step-by-step explanation:

x - y = 36 --> eq. 1

x + y = 50 --> eq.2

TO BE NOTED: eq. means equation number..

By elimination method,

x - y = 36

x + y = 50

Here, we can just add as The coefficient of the variable in both the equations are same and the signs are already different..

When we add we get

2x = 86

x = 43

Substitute in any equation (better to substitute in the equation you feel comfortable)

Here, you will be seeing substituting in both (but normally, we will substitute only in anyone equation)

Substituting in equation 1.:

x - y = 36

=> 43 - y = 36

43 - 36 = y

y = 7

Substituting in equation 2 :

x + y = 50

43 +y = 50

y = 50 - 43

= 7

Solution set is ( 43,7)
