Answer:

1)  The name of substance "X" is Calcium oxide ( CaO ).

Explanation:  quicklime is used for whitewashing because when quick lime reacts with water

2) CaO + H2O   ->  Ca(OH)2

it forms calcium hydroxide which absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and thus form calcium carbonate which forms a hard coating on walls.

3) CaO(s) + H2O(l)   ->    Ca(OH)2(aq)

Ca(OH)2 + CO2  ->  CaCO3 + H2O

1. The substance used for white washing is CaO (Calcium Oxide). Therefore, the substance X is Calcium oxide having formula CaO.

2. When Calcium oxide reacts with water, following reaction takes place-

CaO + H2O → Ca(OH)2

When Calcium oxide reacts with water formation of Calcium Hydroxide (another name - Slaked lime) having formula Ca(OH)2 takes place. Therefore, the substance Y is Calcium Hydroxide.

The above reaction is an example of a Combination Reaction. Because in it two or more reactants combine to form a single product.

Also,

3. Ca(OH)2 + CO2 → CaCO3 + H2O

When Calcium Hydroxide reacts with carbon-dioxide formation of Calcium Carbonate takes place.

The above reaction is an example of a Double Displacement Reaction. Because the exchange of ions takes place. Also, known as Precipitation Reaction, as the formation of precipitate takes place.
