The Spanish and Portuguese conquest and colonisation of America was decisively under way by the mid-sixteenth century. European conquest was not only a result of superior firepower. Infact, the most powerful weapon of the Spanish conquerors were not only conventional military weapon at all, It was germs such as smallpox, that they carried on their person. Because of their long isolation, America's inhabitants had no immunity against these diseases that came from Europe. Smallpox, once introduced, it spread deep into the continent. It killed whole communities, paving the way for conquest and colonisation.

There is very limited research available on a magnanimous event as the Spanish conquest and colonization of North America. There is very scarce information about the experience and performance of a few Spaniards who, like numerous others, in their exploration for new possibilities and a healthier life, attempted considerably north to Cuba and New Spain in tiny and large campaigns with virtually no data, no authentic descriptions of what they were going to find along the trail.

Spain investigated and captured vast regions ranging from North Carolina on the Eastern Coast of America to Alaska on the northwest point of the subcontinent: California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Alabama.
