Given info : The specific heat of a material is given in a strange unit to be c = 3.6 kJ/kg.°F

To find : the specific heat of this material in the SI unit of KJ/kg.°C is..

solution : if you consider the formula of heat change of a material, you get, H = msΔT , means the specific heat depends on the change in temperature.

we also know, change in temperature in °C = 5/9 × change in temperature in °F

⇒ if we consider change in temperature in °F is 1 then change in temperature in °C will be 5/9.

∴ 1°C = 5/9°F

∴ 1°F = 9/5 °C

so the specific heat of the material in the si units = 3.6 kJ/kg(9/5°C)

= 2 kJ/kg.°C

therefore the specific heat of the material in the SI units is 2.00 kJ/kg.°C
