Question

The specific resistance of the material of s wire is 44*10^-8ohm if the resistance of the wire is 14ohm and its radius is0.5*10^-3m calculate the length of the wire

Answer:

Given :

Specific Resistance , ρ = 44*10^(-8) Ω = 0.00000044 Ω

Resistance ,  R = 14 Ω

Radius , r = 0.5 * 10^(-3) m

=> Area , A = πr²

Area , A = 0.00000025 π

Formula :- R=\frac{\rho l}{A}

Sub. values in the formula we get ,

=> 14 = 0.00000044 * l / 0.00000025 π

=> 0.0000109955 = 0.00000044*l

=> l = 24.9899 m

More Information :

  • specific resistance? :-
  • Specific resistance is defined as the resistance offered per unit length and unit cross-sectional area when a known amount of voltage is applied. The mathematical representation is as follows:
  • ρ=(R/A)*L

Where,

  • ⍴: specific resistance
  • R: resistance
  • A: cross-sectional area
  • L: length of the material
