Answer: total distance to be covered by car is 640 km.

Step-by-step explanation:

The speed of car is 80 km/h and after 2 h it covered one fourth of total distance.

Speed of car = 80 km/hr.

Therefore distance covered by the car in 2 hours = 2 hours × 80 km/hr. = 160 km.

Let the total distance to be covered by car be x km.

But the car could cover only 1/4 of distance in 2 hours. The distance covered by car is 1/4 of x in 2 hours.

1/4 of x = 160 km.

1/4 × x = 160 km.

x/4 = 160 km.

Cross multiplication

x = 4 × 160 km

x = 640 km.

Hence total distance to be covered by car is 640 km.

Answer:

Speed of car = 80 km per hour

Distance covered in 1 hr = 80 km

Distance covered after 2hr = 80+ 160km = 240km is the distance covered in 3 hours

Now 240 km is \frac{1}{4} of the total distance

If 240 km = \frac{1}{4}part

(in fraction \frac{1}{4}+\frac{1}{4}=\frac{1}{2})

In the same way 240+240= 480km

(i.e. 480km=\frac{1}{2} of total distance

(in fraction \frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2}=\frac{1}{1}\:or\: whole\:part)

In the same way

480+480=960km is the total distance
