the speed of an automatic lift increases from 0 to 40cm/sec for the first 30 seconds it then travels at a constant speed of 40 cm/sec for 20 seconds. The lift then comes to rest in the final 20 seconds. represent thi information as a speed time graph and use it to find the distance travelled by the lift. Answer:

(i) Acceleration during first two seconds =

2−0

4.6−0

=2.3m/s

(ii) Acceleration between second and tenth second is zero, since the velocity is constant during this time.

(iii) Acceleration during last two seconds =

12−10

0−4.6

=−2.3m/s
