.. If an object changes direction, it is accelerating. Newton's second law says that if you apply a force to an object, the direction in which the object accelerates is the same as the direction of the force. You can change the direction of an object without changing its speed.

The speed can be anything..as force means mass times acceleration..When force is given to a body we only consider its acceleration not the speed..
