Correct option is

B

4 km/hr

Let A's speed = x km/hr Then B's speed = (7 - x) km/hr So,

x

24

+

(7−x)

24

=14

⇒24(7−x)+24x=14x(7−x)⇒168=98x−14x

2

⇒14x

2

−98x+168=0

⇒x

2

−7x+12=0⇒(x−3)(x−4)=0⇒x=3or4

Since A is faster than B, A's speed = 4 km/hr and B's speed = 3 km/hr

Answer:472 KM

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us take the difference in percentages as A=100% B=122.5%

22.5% in fraction is 9/40

Speeds Ratio of A and B is 40 : 49

(for B, it is 40+9 both denominator and numerator together)

Time ratio is 21 : 25 (given in the question)

40:49

21:25

the above ratios when simplified become 24:35(8*3:7*5)

the difference b/w 24 and 35 is 11.

And this 11 parts difference is 88 Km (given in the question)

Since we need the total journey, we need the value of 24 and 35 parts.

so 24+35=59 for 11 parts, it is 88km, for 59 parts-

(59/11)88 = 472Km

Note- if you do not get the step 24:35(simplifying the speed and time ratios), then you can simply quit trying the problem.
