Answer:

relative ref. index of medium 1 with respect to medium 2  = ₁n₂ = c1/c2

ref index . =speed of light in air /speedof light in water

= 3×10⁸/2.26×10⁸

=1.33

Solution :

Speed of light in air  =  3 × 10^8 m s–1

Speed of light in water  =  2.26 × 10^8 m s–1

Refractive index of water with respect to air

=> speed of air/speed of water

=>   3 × 10^8/2.26 × 10^8

=>  3/2.26

=> 1.32

  • Hence, refractive index is 1.32

Information :

°It's the ratio of speed of light in vaccum to the speed of light in medium.

→ n = c/v

where, c = speed of light in vaccum

v = speed of light in medium

° It has no unit
